More on Testing and Homework

 Testing

Testing makes up the largest portion of your grade and you should, therefore, pay close attention to testing dates and testing policies.

 Testing and Absences

1)      If you are absent on a test day you should approach me the day you return to school to schedule the makeup.  This will be done at my convenience and in a timely manner befitting the length of your absence.

2)      If you are absent on the review day of a test, you will still be expected to test with the class on the day of your return.   Exceptions will be made for extended absences or other emergencies.  Please come speak with me.

3)      If you miss some other day during a unit of study, you will be expected to makeup the work in a timely fashion and take the test with the class on the scheduled date.   Generally you have one extra class period to make up the work for one absence.

4)      Always getting absences excused as soon as possible.   If you have an unexcused absence, you will not be allowed to make up any of the work.   This includes tests!

Other Testing Issues

1)      The test must be taken in the allotted time given during class with few exceptions.   If you are prepared for the test, then there should be enough time to finish during class.  If you tend to take long on tests, you should discuss this with me individually beforehand and we will make a plan.

2)      Calculators are rarely allowed on tests.   You should use calculators only rarely on homework to ensure you will be prepared for the tests.

Homework

It is essential to spend quality time completing homework and ensuring you are completing it correctly.   Homework completed incorrectly does you no good.  Homework is graded on a combination of completion and correctness.   Here are some homework policies for this class:

 1)  All homework is to be completed neatly and with pencil.

2)  Show all necessary work.   Listing answers only will receive zero credit.

3)  Homework must be completed and turned in on time. Late work will not be accepted except in the case of excused absences.

4)  Do homework the day it is assigned.  Come in with questions on the "off" day.   If you wait until the night before it is due, you will find that you often do not remember how to do the assignment and will not be able to complete it by the time it is due.

5)  Seek help early and often.  Everyone needs help in math, at least occasionally.  Make sure you are comfortable seeking help from your teacher.   Drop into the classroom after school for help or for a quite place to work.  My classroom is open to you.
