Health 1:  Lifetime Health

TEXTBOOK:         Glencoe Health and a variety of other materials related to the topics and issues being studied.

GOALS: Students will:

Understand, assess, and prevent controllable health risks.
Understand, create, support, and be supported by safe and healthy environments.
Understand the importance of living a healthy life throughout the lifespan.
Understand and integrate concepts for a healthy and fit body.
Analyze health information, products and services while considering media, technological, and cultural influences.

ACADEMIC EXPECTATIONS:

   To have a 3 ring binder for health.  You will need to keep all your work from the semester for grade and score verifications.
Be prepared for class.  Show up with your textbook, paper and a writing utensil.

   COME WITH A POSITIVE ATTITUDE!

GUIDELINES TO YOUR SUCCESS:
 Be in the room when the bell rings at the beginning of the period to avoid being marked tardy.
Come to class ready to learn.
Be ready to participate in all activities and to be on task.
Give responsible responses and extend common courtesy to others.
 Do not eat, drink or sleep in this class. 

   Make sure all electronic devices are turned off during class. These devices are not to be seen or used during class.  If this becomes a problem they will be taken from you and can be picked up at the end of the day. 

   You are responsible to inform me that you need missed work due to an absence.  

ASSIGNMENTS:

Assignments will be given in class.
 Any assignment that is not completed in class will be homework.
Assignments must be turned in on the due date at the beginning of the period.
 Late work will be given one-half credit (50%).

Assignments turned in after the beginning of class are considered late, 50% credit. Late assignments will not be accepted after a unit of instruction has been completed.

 Make up work will be allowed for excused absences only.  You will have one day to make up work for the day you were gone (If you were gone for two days, you have two days to make up the work).

LETTER GRADES:

Letter grades will be based upon the percentage of points earned throughout the semester.  Every assignment, quiz, project, and unit exam will be given a point value.  Health I is a required class for graduation and will be given a grade for the course at the end of the semester.  You will gain points from the following activities:

Student participation
Warm-ups
Daily assignments
Projects
Unit exams

A = 90-100%
B = 80-89%
C = 70-79%
D = 60-69%
F = 0-59%
