Media critique speech
There are several due dates for this: your topic is due on 4/5; your outline is due on 4/7; you will deliver your speech on 4/9, 4/13, or 4/15.
For this assignment you will want to find some non-print media (TV show, movie, music, or some other form) and convince the audience that that media is amazing, or terrible. You are not simply trying to inform us about this, you are trying to convince us to have a certain belief about us. In a sense, you are trying to brainwash us. That puts a negative spin on the idea, but nonetheless, that a way to thing about it. You should consider these persuasive techniques. The assignment sheet and an example outline, click on those links.
NEw independent reading novel!
Due on April 5th. You must have the book in the room.
Outline for info/demo speech due monday
For this, you need to consider which organizational structure makes the most sense, given the topic of your speech, then create an outline utilizing that structure, and outlining the topics you will cover. Your outline must include a word for word version of your introduction and conclusion. A sample can be found here, and yours should look exactly like it in structure. Keep in mind that your speech should be about four minutes long..
info/demo speech
This is the first major speech of the class. For this, you will need to create an outline. That is due on Monday, March 15th. Then, as part of this speech, you will need a visual aid. The key to the visual aid is that it must aid, visually, your speech, it must be easy to digest, and you MUST interact with it. Use it as a means of teaching. And, you must practice, practice, practice. In fact, you receive a score for a confirmation from your parents that you did, in fact, practice your speech. The assignment sheet is right here.
bag speech on monday 2/8 or wednesday 2/10
So, for our first speech, bring your bag and your items, and wow us with your style and pizzazz. Your grade on this assignment rests on your ability to read directions, to display creatively a bit of who you are, and to engage us in your words. I look forward to hearing what you have to say. If you can't find your assignment sheet, you can find one here.
for monday 2/8! your interpretive reading choice
Choose something you can read well. The purpose of the assignment is to do just that. This is not the time to try your reading skills on Shakespeare, unless of course, you have Shakespeare in your blood. The assignment sheet is here.
INdependent reading, oh yeah!
For 2/12, that's a Friday, find a book that you've been dying to read, and bring it on into class. The book must be age/ability appropriate. If you have questions, or need a suggestion, ask me, your parents, your friends, Santa, your grandma, Casper, whoever you need to in order to find an amazing book to read.
